The Board of Directors for the PSESD Learning Communities Foundation (LCF) is pleased to welcome Nancy Woodland as our new executive director. Nancy brings many years’ experience as an executive director with demonstrated success in building an organization from the ground up as well as a life-long passion for mobilizing resources to support children’s optimal growth and development.

“After 18 months of day-to-day operations managed by our volunteer board, we are thrilled to bring on an experienced leader who possesses the skill and passion to advance our mission to support children and families served by the Puget Sound Educational Service District,” shares Rob Beem, LCF Board Chair.

After 13 years as Executive Director of WestSide Baby, where she partnered with the board and community to build a respected, impactful organization dedicated to providing for children’s basic needs, Nancy stepped away in 2019.

"The long-term impact of small things, like a diaper, on child development, bonding, learning, and family access to economic stability is profound.”

“Because not all children receive the basic material items they need to thrive, my time as an executive director focused primarily on filling that gap by providing diapers, clothing, car seats, and cribs. For me, that work was both heart centered and strategic in execution." Woodland continues, "And this work starts with resourcing excellent, inclusive programs for our earliest learners, their families, teachers, and caregivers. That, coupled with resourcing and distributing emergency funds shows LCF understands both current and future focus is necessary. Getting to work on site at Educare in a building filled with children’s laughter is just a bonus!”

For over 25 years, her professional career and leadership roles include law school training uniquely focused on child advocacy and board service for children’s issues. Currently, she serves on the National Diaper Bank Network board and the King County Children and Youth Advisory Board. She is aware of both local and national issues affecting children’s well-being and working to address financial barriers as Chair of Verity Credit Union’s Board of Directors.

“I am excited to be a part of the PSESD’s larger work to create racially just and humanizing school systems."

Nancy will be with LCF for 20 hours per week and spend the other half of the week as a consultant with Ampersand Community, a nonprofit working towards excellence in connecting nonprofit work with relationship and trust building, all grounded in anti-racism. The Learning Communities Foundation Board is committed to weaving this approach into all facets of LCF’s culture, making Nancy’s experience integral and valuable in the coming years.

Nancy can be reached at (206) 716-8840 and via email. Forms to request Emergency Funds for PSESD families are available online.
